Gila Ridge is headed into the contest having just suffered their biggest loss since September 15th on Wednesday. They came up short against Shadow Ridge, falling 3-0. The defeat continues a trend for the Hawks in their meetings with the Stallions: they've now lost five in a row.
While Gila Ridge was not able to make it on the board, they still kept things close, especially in the third set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-12, 25-11, 28-26.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Kofa, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Wednesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Somerton on Monday, sneaking past 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Kings have posted since September 24, 2024.
Kofa wouldn't go down easily and took Somerton into a fifth set where they got it done with a three-point win. The match finished with set scores of 25-21, 23-25, 14-25, 25-18, 15-12.
Kofa's win came from a few key players Gila Ridge will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Melina Martinez, who had 21 assists and two aces. Those 21 assists gave her a new career-high.
Kofa was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 18 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in five consecutive matchups.
Gila Ridge's loss dropped their record down to 19-9. As for Kofa, their record now sits at 4-8.
