Volleyball Recap: Madison Mavericks vs. Brandeis Broncos

Madison was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Brandeis Broncos. The Mavericks were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Broncos apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

Madison took a 2-1 lead headed into the fourth set, but sadly they lost the next two. The final score came out to 25-17, 21-25, 20-25, 25-21, 15-8.

Deylen Mendivil paced Madison's offense, picking up 22 kills. Mendivil got some help from Cyani Ingram and her 25 assists. Mendivil was also a major player on defense: she and Eva Hernandez shared the team lead in blocks, finishing with three each.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Brandeis to victory, but perhaps none more so than Adalin Gutierrez, who had 18 digs and two aces. Those two aces gave Gutierrez a new career-high. Madi Sauceda was another key player, getting 15 digs.

Madison's defeat dropped their record down to 12-22. As for Brandeis, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-21 record this season.

Madison wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 3-1 victory against LEE on the 26th. As for Brandeis, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 3-0 win against SA Roosevelt on the 26th.
