Baseball Recap: Tucker County Mountain Lions vs. Gilmer County Titans
Tucker County had lost 14 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped down to 2-15 to make it 15. They came up short against the Gilmer County Titans, falling 15-2. The loss was just more heartbreak for the Mountain Lions who fell 6-4 when the teams previously met back in April of 2023.
Tucker County saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Owen Helmick, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple and one RBI. That triple marked the first that Helmick has hit this season.
As for Gilmer County, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 22-4. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 16 matchups by six runs or more this season.
On Gilmer County's side, Jacob Stewart was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Stewart has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Brody Beall was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Guage Goodrich, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Looking ahead, Tucker County will host Moorefield at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Gilmer County, they are taking a road trip to challenge Charleston Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
