Softball Recap: Catoctin Picks Up 13th Consecutive Win

Catoctin had already won 12 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it 13 on Monday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Brunswick Railroaders an 8-0 shutout. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 contests by seven runs or more this season.

The result came thanks to Taylor Smith's shutout, as she gave up just three hits and racked up 16 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 11 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Bralyn West and Kassidy Kreitz did most of the damage at the plate: West went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Kreitz went 1-for-2 with one home run and four RBI. Another player making a difference was Madison Ohler, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.

Catoctin was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Brunswick only posted a batting average of .125.

Catoctin pushed their record up to 14-1-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.1 runs on average over those games. As for Brunswick, their loss dropped their record down to 9-6.

As of now, neither Catoctin nor the Railroaders have any future games scheduled.
