Softball Recap: Bishop Drops Season-High Score on San Marcos

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Bishop). They never let the San Marcos Rattlers get on the board and left with a 12-0 win on Saturday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Leah Gutierrez and Ayla Gonzales did most of the damage at the plate: Gutierrez scored two runs while going 2-for-3, while Gonzales scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. That's the most runs Gutierrez has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Mercedes Everet, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI and one double.

Bishop was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .320 or higher in four consecutive contests.

Bishop has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. The defeat snapped San Marcos' winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 7-5-1 record.

Looking ahead, Bishop will face off against Harlingen at 2:45 p.m. on Saturday. As for San Marcos, they will be taking part in a tournament against Los Fresnos at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Los Fresnos has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed seven runs per game on average), something San Marcos will no doubt try to take advantage of.
