Baseball Recap: Fenwick Wins Going Away Against Montini Catholic

Fenwick was not the first on the board on Saturday, but they got there more often. They blew past the Montini Catholic Broncos 11-5. The win continues a trend for the Friars in their matchups with the Broncos: they've now won three in a row.

Fenwick got a great performance from Matt Purta as he struck out 13 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Those 13 strikeouts gave Purta a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Johnny Buchman was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryan Tunison, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Fenwick now has a winning record of 13-12-1. As for Montini Catholic, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 15-13.

Looking ahead, Fenwick will host St. Francis at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Spartans will roll in looking for their 18th straight victory, something the Friars surely won't give up without a fight. As for Montini Catholic, they are taking a road trip to challenge Leo at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Broncos are facing the Lions at the right time seeing as the Lions are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
