Football Game Preview: Veterans Warhawks vs. Thomas County Central Yellow Jackets

The Veterans Warhawks will square off against the Thomas County Central Yellow Jackets at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Veterans has struggled recently with three defeats in a row, while Thomas County Central will arrive with six straight victories.

On Friday, Veterans was beaten by Houston County 49-10. The contest marked the Warhawks' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Meanwhile, Thomas County Central strolled past Lee County with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 35-21. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Yellow Jackets' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked seventh, while the Trojans are ranked 70th).

Veterans better keep an eye on Christian Lawrence. He was instrumental in Thomas County Central's win, rushing for 210 yards and one TD while picking up 8.8 yards per carry, and also picking up 54 receiving yards and one score. With that strong performance, Lawrence is now averaging an impressive 106.8 rushing yards per game. Another player making a difference was Jaylen Johnson, who threw for 169 yards and three touchdowns.

Thomas County Central was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 260 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in September of 2024.

One reason for the win was Thomas County Central's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for six sacks. Lee County's QB won't forget Cam Brooks anytime soon given he sacked him 2.5 times. Prince Che was another major factor on D, picking up a sack, making eight total tackles (4.0 for loss), and defending one pass.

Thomas County Central's win bumped their record up to 6-0. As for Veterans, their loss dropped their record down to 2-4.

Veterans was dealt a bruising 61-10 defeat at the hands of Thomas County Central in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Warhawks were down 38-10.
