Baseball Recap: Bertie Drops Season-High Score on Southeast Halifax

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Bertie). They blew past the Southeast Halifax Trojans 23-1 on Monday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Falcons.

Shane Lowers and Mason Brooks were a major factor no matter where they played. On the mound, Lowers tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Brooks struck out seven batters over 2.2 innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. At bat, Lowers scored three runs while going 1-for-3, while Brooks scored a run while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Those three runs gave Lowers a new career-high.

In other batting news, Michael Thompson, III was a standout: he scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. He has become a key player for Bertie: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 2-9 otherwise. Tayvien Ward was another key player, going 2-for-5 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple.

Bertie picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 4-10. As for Southeast Halifax, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.

Bertie has already played their next contest, a 7-0 defeat against Martin County on the 1st. As for Southeast Halifax, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, a 12-4 loss against Northwest Halifax on the 1st.
