Preview: Northeastern Eagles vs. First Flight Nighthawks
The Northeastern Eagles will head out on the road to challenge the First Flight Nighthawks at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Friday, Northeastern earned a 58-51 win over Currituck County. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Northeastern.
Northeastern's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Sayvion Saunders led the charge by scoring 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jakeel Stallings, who scored 16 points.
Meanwhile, First Flight was able to grind out a solid win over Pasquotank County on Friday, taking the game 74-61.
First Flight's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Burke Powers, who scored 18 points. That's the first time this season that Powers scored 15 or more points. Mason Dobie was another key contributor, scoring 15 points.
Northeastern has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-6 record this season. As for First Flight, their victory bumped their record up to 7-9.
Everything came up roses for Northeastern against First Flight in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 as the squad secured a 82-46 win. With Northeastern ahead 41-13 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
