Softball Preview: Rustburg Red Devils vs. Appomattox County Raiders
The Rustburg Red Devils will square off against the Appomattox County Raiders at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Rustburg not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 26, 2024. They blew past William Campbell 11-1. The Red Devils haven't had any issues with the Generals recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.
Paiten Archer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits.
On the hitting side, Nahla Bigham was incredible, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Baylee Tweedy, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Rustburg kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as William Campbell only managed six hits.
Meanwhile, Appomattox County gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Monday. They skirted past Amherst County 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Raiders have posted since April 22, 2024.
Appomattox County's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Kaysen Kesler, who scored a run while going 1-for-1.
Rustburg suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Appomattox County in their previous meeting back in May of 2022. Can Rustburg avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
