Bethlehem Central and Guilderland are an even 3-3 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Eagles will head out on the road to square off against the Flying Dutchmen at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday. Bethlehem Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.9 runs per game this season.
Bethlehem Central gave up the first runs on Wednesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They walked away with a 5-2 win over Saratoga Springs.
Emma Hanlon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on three hits and racked up seven Ks.
At the plate, Lyla Hanlon was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Guilderland came into Tuesday's game having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Columbia on Tuesday, sneaking past 4-2.
Guilderland also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Giada Vivenzio gave up just two earned runs on seven hits.
On the hitting side, Guilderland secured the victory behind a pair of hitters. One of them was Lydia Santabarbara, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base.
Bethlehem Central is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.9 runs on average over those games. As for Guilderland, their record is now 7-8.
Guilderland's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Bethlehem Central has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Guilderland, though, as they've been averaging only 3.4 strikeouts. Will Bethlehem Central keep running through batters, or will the Flying Dutchmen buck the trend?
Everything went Bethlehem Central's way against Guilderland when the teams last played back in April, as Bethlehem Central made off with a 16-4 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
