Football Game Preview: Yough Cougars vs. Greensburg Salem Golden Lions

The Yough Cougars will head out on the road to square off against the Greensburg Salem Golden Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with six consecutive losses for Yough and five for Greensburg Salem.

Yough is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against Elizabeth Forward on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Cougars were dealt a 55-7 defeat at the hands of the Warriors. The Cougars were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 49-0.

Ryan Sarver put forth a good effort for the losing side as he picked up 100 receiving yards and one touchdown. The bulk of those receiving yards came from one huge play: a catch that gained an incredible 72 yards.

Meanwhile, Greensburg Salem ended up a good deal behind Derry on Friday and lost 43-28.

Yough will have to contain Brody Chismar as he made an impact in Greensburg Salem's last game. He threw for 182 yards and one TD, and also rushed for 57 yards.

Yough's loss dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Greensburg Salem, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 2-6.

Yough was dealt a bruising 37-8 loss at the hands of Greensburg Salem in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. Can the Cougars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
