Baseball Game Preview: Cheraw Braves vs. Sumter Gamecocks

The Cheraw Braves will head out on the road to face off against the Sumter Gamecocks at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Cheraw has nine straight wins, Sumter has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

While Cheraw's victory against York Prep wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Braves skirted past the Patriots 6-4.

Anthony Strong was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up a single earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Will Quick was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Nick Gordon, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Sumter has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.77 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Saturday. They lost 13-7 to Hartsville.

Cheraw pushed their record up to 10-2 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Sumter, they now have a losing record of 6-7.
