Basketball Recap: Sammamish Takes a Loss

Sammamish lost against Mercer Island back in November of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Sammamish RedHawks fell 75-67 to the Mercer Island Islanders.

When it comes to explaining why Sammamish lost, don't look at Rakin Showki. Despite the final result, he almost dropped a triple-double on 29 points, nine boards, and ten assists. Showki's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Logan Arthur, who went 5 of 7 on his way to 15 points.

Mercer Island had a senior duo take command as Tristen Cruzen posted 29 points and William McDonald had 28 points. Those 29 points gave Cruzen a new career-high. Michael Mcdonald was another key player, putting up ten points.

Sammamish's defeat dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Mercer Island, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Sammamish will head out to square off against Bellevue at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Sammamish's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season. As for Mercer Island, they will host Lake Washington at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
