Recap: Ponderosa Mustangs vs. Thomas Jefferson Spartans

On Tuesday, the Ponderosa Mustangs's game was all tied up 17-17 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They walked away with a 55-44 win over Thomas Jefferson. For Ponderosa, this counts as revenge for the 42-16 defeat Thomas Jefferson walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January of 2023.

Maddison Neale was her usual excellent self, scoring 18 points along with seven steals. She is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Cate Schoultz, who scored seven points along with seven rebounds.

Thomas Jefferson's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Leyna McClinon, who scored 16 points along with three steals and two blocks. McClinon hasn't dropped below two blocks for five straight games. Another player making a difference was Lucy Lloyd, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Ponderosa's victory bumped their record up to 4-8. As for Thomas Jefferson, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season.

Ponderosa will head out on the road to challenge Douglas County at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The timing is sure in Douglas County's favor as the squad sits on three straight wins at home while Ponderosa has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road. Thomas Jefferson will take on Denver South at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Denver South focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 35 on Monday.
