Preview: Hayfork Timberjacks vs. Big Valley Cardinals
The Hayfork Timberjacks will look to defend their home court on Thursday against the Big Valley Cardinals at 6:00 p.m. Hayfork will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak.
Hayfork scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They claimed a resounding 87-59 victory over Tulelake on the road. Hayfork has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 contests by 20 points or more this season.
Hayfork found their leader in underclassman Levi Cavalli, who almost dropped a triple-double on 33 points, 11 rebounds, and nine steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Cavalli has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Daniel Kasper, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds.
Meanwhile, Big Valley came into Tuesday's game having lost six straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They strolled past Dunsmuir with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 49-35.
Among those leading the charge was Josue Barba, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds. Another player making a difference was Connor Kenobbie, who scored two points along with nine rebounds.
Hayfork has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. As for Big Valley, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-9.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Hayfork have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 25.5 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Big Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 32.8 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything went Hayfork's way against the Cardinals when the teams last played back in January as the Timberjacks made off with a 69-45 victory. Will Hayfork repeat their success, or do the Cardinals have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
