Basketball Game Preview: Hughes Lions vs. Zion Christian Academy Eagles

The Hughes Lions will head out on the road to challenge the Zion Christian Academy Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.

It was a proper cat-fight when Hughes took on Mt. Pleasant on Saturday. Hughes took a 52-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of Mt. Pleasant. The Lions haven't had much luck with the Tigers recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.

Meanwhile, Zion Christian Academy played a tough match on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against Franklin Christian Academy, falling 74-54. The Eagles were down 55-34 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Hughes will have to contain Gabe Davenport as he made an impact in Zion Christian Academy's last game. He almost dropped a double-double on 40 points and nine rebounds. Davenport's evening made it 21 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Collin Kennedy, who posted five points.

Zion Christian Academy dropped their record down to 12-9 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for Hughes, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-6.

Hughes beat Zion Christian Academy 61-48 in their previous meeting back in January of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Hughes since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
