Football Recap: St. Joseph-by-the-Sea Takes a Loss

St. Joseph-by-the-Sea scored first but ultimately less than Archbishop Stepinac in their game on Friday. They fell 24-17 to the Crusaders. While losing is never fun, the Vikings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York football rankings (they are ranked 69th, while the Crusaders are ranked seventh).

Although St. Joseph-by-the-Sea took the loss, they still got scores from Yue Christian and Moran Joseph.

John Smith was his usual excellent self, rushing for 150 yards and one touchdown while picking up 7.5 yards per carry, and also picking up 55 receiving yards and one TD for Archbishop Stepinac. Smith's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 120 rushing yards. Another player making a difference was Jahmai McNeil, who rushed for 37 yards and one score.

St. Joseph-by-the-Sea now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Archbishop Stepinac, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

St. Joseph-by-the-Sea didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 23-14 win against Kellenberg Memorial on the 4th. As for Archbishop Stepinac, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 14-6 victory against Cardinal Hayes on the 3rd.
