Softball Recap: Northfield Comes Up Short

Northfield had lost six straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 2-14 to make it seven. They took a 10-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the North Miami Warriors. The Norsemen were not able to make up for their defeat to the Warriors from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

Northfield saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bella Myers, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

As for North Miami, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.2 runs over those games.

On North Miami's side, Ashley Sumpter-Music spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on six hits and racked up eight Ks. Sumpter-Music has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jordyn Hackworth, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Zoey Sparks, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Coming up, Northfield will face off against Maconaquah at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Norsemen are facing the Braves at the right time seeing as the Braves are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for North Miami, they have already played their next game, a 7-4 loss against Winamac on the 17th.
