Softball Game Preview: Galena Bears vs. Hurley Tigers

The Galena Bears are taking a road trip to take on the Hurley Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

Galena is headed into Tuesday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their ninth straight game dating back to last season on Tuesday. They lost 15-0 to Southwest.

Meanwhile, Hurley fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Greenfield on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 11-10. The Tigers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Addy Maxwell spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and nine unearned) runs on 12 hits and racked up ten Ks. Those ten strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Madi Conrad made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Dacia Grubbs was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.

Galena's loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Hurley, they now have a losing record of 2-3.

Galena might still be hurting after the 16-0 defeat they got from Hurley in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Bears avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
