Baseball Recap: Jarrell Comes Up Short

Jarrell extended their losing streak to six on Friday, dropping them down to 2-18. They lost 10-0 to the Gateway College Preparatory Gators. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Gators this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 21-0 on Tuesday.

As for Gateway College Preparatory, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 7-15-1. Give their pitching crew some credit: that's the team's fourth straight shutout.

For Gateway College Preparatory's part, Kenneth Vallejo tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Vallejo has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Mason Coxe, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Gateway College Preparatory is 4-1 when Coxe posts two or more runs, but 3-14-1 otherwise. Brennan Partlow also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Jarrell will square off against rival Marble Falls at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Gateway College Preparatory is set to challenge their familiar foe Burnet at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
