Basketball Recap: Houlka Skates Past Smithville with Ease

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against West Union, Houlka was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They blew past the Smithville Seminoles 71-44. The win was some much needed relief for the Wildcats as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Houlka got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Ryder Wilson out in front who went 5 of 7 en route to 18 points and four steals. The dominant performance gave Wilson a new career-high in points. Collin Griggs was another key player, going 6 for 9 on his way to 16 points and three steals.

Houlka's win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-7. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.8 points per game. As for Smithville, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-14.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Houlka Wildcats challenge the Jumpertown Cardinals at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Jumpertown has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Smithville, they will challenge Tremont at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Smithville is facing Tremont at the right time seeing as Tremont is stuck on a seven-game losing streak.
