Baseball Game Preview: Centennial Eagles vs. Putnam Kingsmen

For the second straight game, Centennial will face off against Putnam. The Eagles will be playing at home against the Kingsmen at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Centennial has given up an average of 9 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Centennial managed to slip by Putnam the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Eagles came up short against the Kingsmen on Tuesday, falling 11-1. The Eagles' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

For Putnam's part, Ben Boman spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on one hit and racked up 12 Ks. Boman has become a key player for the Kingsmen: the team is undefeated when he posts at least eight strikeouts, but 5-13 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ian Pollard, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. Joe Salvione was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs.

Putnam's win ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-13. As for Centennial, their loss dropped their record down to 6-17.
