Baseball Recap: Easton Area Takes a Loss

Easton Area dropped their record down to 6-4 on Thursday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They lost 12-3 to the Freedom Patriots. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Rovers, who until this game were averaging 3.8 runs allowed.

Easton Area got a good showing from Nolan Stem, who pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Stem has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single walk any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Chase Shollenberger was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season. Kurtis Crossman was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs.

As for Freedom, they pushed their record up to 9-3 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. The win continues a trend for them in their matchups with Easton Area: they've now won five in a row.

On Freedom's side, Santiago Rodriguez was incredible, firing off two home runs and six RBI while going 2-for-4. Those two home runs gave Rodriguez a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Patrick Kiefner, who went 3-for-5 with two runs and one RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Easton Area will head out to challenge Parkland at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Trojans will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something the Rovers surely won't give up without a fight. As for Freedom, they will head out on the road to square off against Northampton at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
