Preview: Dunellen Destroyers vs. Metuchen Bulldogs
Dunellen has been on the road for three straight, but on Monday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Metuchen Bulldogs at 11:00 a.m. on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Dunellen scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They took their game on the road with ease, bagging a 75-39 victory over East Brunswick Vo-Tech. That 36 points margin sets a new team best for Dunellen this season.
Dunellen's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jamael Davis led the charge by scoring 14 points along with five rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Hutchins, who scored 15 points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Metuchen can now show off four landslide victories after their most recent game on Wednesday. They put the hurt on Kennedy Memorial with a sharp 57-33 victory. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Metuchen has posted yet this season.
Jason Woods continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 25 points along with five rebounds. Danny Galligan was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Dunellen is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 5-6 record this season. As for Metuchen, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Dunellen have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 35.5 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Metuchen struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 31.2 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Dunellen lost to Metuchen at home by a decisive 48-30 margin in their previous matchup back in January of 2023. Can Dunellen avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
