Basketball Preview: McIntosh County Academy Buccaneers vs. Camden County Wildcats
The McIntosh County Academy Buccaneers will head out on the road to face off against the Camden County Wildcats at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
While Buccaneers fans will have to keep waiting for their squad to come home, they shouldn't be too worried about the road trip considering the result of Saturday's season opener. They secured a 56-51 W over Bacon County on Saturday. The win continues a trend for the Buccaneers in their matchups with the Raiders: they've now won four in a row.
McIntosh County Academy had a senior duo take command as Marquise Morning almost dropped a double-double with 19 points and nine rebounds and Jalen Drake went 6-for-11 en route to 19 points and six assists. Another player making a difference was Josh West, who posted six points and seven boards.
Meanwhile, Camden County took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Saturday. They breezed past South Effingham to the tune of 77-49. The Wildcats not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since December 7, 2024 (when they won 82-32).
McIntosh County Academy better focus on containing Mason Aikens and Jeremiah Reeder as the pair were huge in Camden County's win. Aikens shot 54% from beyond the arc on his way to 23 points, while Reeder went 6-for-13 to rack up 17 points. The dominant performance also gave Reeder a new career-high in rebounds (four). Johnathan Jones was another key player, putting up ten points and five boards.
