Baseball Recap: Normandy Continues Road Dominance on Friday

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Lakewood, Normandy was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They came out on top against the Elyria Pioneers by a score of 5-1. For the Invaders, this counts as revenge for the 10-4 victory the Pioneers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2021.

Dillon Vargo tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over six innings pitched.

At the plate, Lukas Steele was excellent, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Peyton Wolf also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Normandy pushed their record up to 3-6 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Elyria, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.

Normandy and Elyria could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings. The Invaders (ranked 367th) will meet Westlake (ranked 112th) at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Elyria will challenge Avon Lake at 4:45 p.m. on Monday with a big rank disadvantage (494 vs. 244).
