Softball Recap: Windthorst Beats Olney for Their Fifth Straight Victory

Windthorst came tearing into Friday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victors by a 14-2 margin over the Olney Cubs. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 16-0 back in March.

Jalyn Benson made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. What's more, she posted three strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Karissa Fillingim, who scored four runs and stole two bases while going 5-for-5. Those five hits gave her a new career-high. Chloe Schroeder was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-4.

Windthorst kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in three consecutive matches.

Windthorst's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-11. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Olney, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-9 record this season.
