Football Recap: Taft Comes Up Short

Taft extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping them down to 1-5. They were dealt a 55-7 loss at the hands of the Shafter Generals. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 794th, while the Generals are ranked 194th).

Taft didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Brock Fuller.

As for Shafter, they pushed their record up to 5-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. The road wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 45.6 points over those games.

Mariyon Sloan had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 140 yards and four scores on only ten carries. His longest rush was for an impressive 67 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Another back making a difference was Aaron Jimenez, who rushed for 95 yards and one touchdown on only five carries.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Taft will welcome Chavez at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Wildcats will be up against the Titans' rather soft defense (which has allowed 32.33 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Shafter, they will host Delano at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Generals will be up against the Tigers' rather soft defense (which has allowed 36.83 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
