Wyoming East is preparing for their first region matchup of the season on Thursday. They will challenge the Midland Trail Patriots at 5:30 p.m.
On Tuesday, Wyoming East came up short against Liberty and fell 19-14. That's two games in a row now that the Warriors have lost by exactly five runs.
Alivia Monroe and Carlee Rollins did some serious damage despite the final result: Monroe went 4-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs, while Rollins went 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and one double. Kendra Cook was another key player, scoring two runs while going 4-for-4.
Even though they lost, Wyoming East was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .526. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Liberty only posted a batting average of .250.
Meanwhile, Midland Trail posted their closest win since May 8, 2024 on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-6 victory over Greenbrier West. The win continues a trend for the Patriots in their matchups with the Cavaliers: they've now won four in a row.
Madison Rader spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up nine Ks. Those nine strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Nevaeh Hall, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 4-for-5. Jessi Mooney also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Midland Trail's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Wyoming East, their loss was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-2.
Wyoming East was able to grind out a solid win over Midland Trail when the teams last played back in March of 2023, winning 21-16. Does Wyoming East have another victory up their sleeve, or will Midland Trail turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
