Softball Recap: Elyria Comes Up Short

Elyria dropped to 12-6 on Wednesday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They came up short against the Midview Middies, falling 8-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Pioneers have suffered since April 28, 2025.

As for Midview, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.1 runs over those games.

For Midview's part, not much got past Savannah Holcomb, who gave up just four hits and racked up ten Ks to keep Elyria off the board. Holcomb has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Dezirae Thomas was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, one triple, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Jillian Vandersluis, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Looking ahead, Elyria will be playing at home against Berea-Midpark at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday. The Titans' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Pioneers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Midview, they will head out on the road to square off against Olmsted Falls at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday.
