Baseball Game Preview: Sherrard Tigers vs. East Moline United Panthers

The Sherrard Tigers will challenge the East Moline United Panthers at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

East Moline United will be up against a hot Sherrard team: the squad just extended their winning streak to four. The Tigers came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 9-8 W against Mercer County. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Sherrard let Blake Sierens and Carter Brown run wild. Sierens went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Brown went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That's the most hits Sierens has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Garrett Woodward, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, East Moline United owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Monday. They skirted past Sterling 2-0.

Not much got past Dominic Stottler, who gave up just four hits and racked up six Ks to keep Sterling off the board.

On the hitting side, East Moline United's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Zach Darras, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Quinn Scott also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

East Moline United is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.1 runs on average over those games. As for Sherrard, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-3.

Sherrard came up short against East Moline United in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, falling 7-4. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
