Softball Game Preview: Battle Mountain Longhorns vs. Pershing County Mustangs

For the second straight game, Battle Mountain will face off against Pershing County. The Longhorns are taking a road trip to take on the Mustangs at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Battle Mountain has six straight wins, Pershing County has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Pershing County's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Saturday: Battle Mountain hadn't allowed a single run the last three times they've hit the field. The Longhorns' pitcher stepped up to hand the Mustangs a 12-0 shutout on Tuesday. The Longhorns might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Aspen Swanger tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out nine over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Addison Matheus, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Jazmin Johnson, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.

Battle Mountain always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .667 or higher in six consecutive contests.

Battle Mountain pushed their record up to 12-3 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.4 runs over those games. As for Pershing County, they now have a losing record of 10-11.
