Sienna Garcia spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Lydia Springer was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Jimenez, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, Key West entered their tilt with Barron Collier on Wednesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They put the hurt on the Cougars with a sharp 7-1 victory.
Key West also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Brianna Brenner gave up only one earned run on two hits and racked up 14 Ks.
At the plate, Skye Sterling and Shylo Sanchez did most of the damage at the plate: Sterling went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI, while Sanchez went 2-for-3 with one home run. That home run was Sterling's first of the season. Tavyn Gage was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Key West lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in March of 2024.
Archbishop McCarthy has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. As for Key West, their victory bumped their record up to 15-7.
Archbishop McCarthy might still be hurting after the 9-0 defeat they got from Key West in their previous matchup back in March of 2022. Can the Mavericks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
