Softball Recap: Manchester's Win on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Five

Manchester entered their tilt with Ripley-Union-Lewis-Huntington on Thursday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They were the clear victors by a 17-4 margin over the Blue Jays. Considering the Greyhounds have won 11 matches by more than ten runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Rylie Young was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with four runs and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Elliana Applegate was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Addilyn Hunter was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs and one RBI.

Manchester's win bumped their record up to 15-3. As for Ripley-Union-Lewis-Huntington, they are on a ten-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-12.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Manchester will face off against rival Fairfield at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Ripley-Union-Lewis-Huntington is set to square off against their familiar foe Fayetteville-Perry at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
