Lyons has gone a perfect 3-0 against SkyView Academy recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Lions will be playing in front of their home fans against the Hawks at 4:00 p.m.
Lyons easily dispatched Clear Creek on Thursday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Lions fell just short of Brush by a score of 5-3 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Lions have suffered since April 12, 2024.
Lyons saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Leo Irvin, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI. Another was Kaion Kishiyama, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, SkyView Academy earned a 12-8 win over Colorado Springs Christian on Tuesday. That's two games straight that the Hawks have won by exactly four runs.
The team relied heavily on Isaac Dove, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with seven stolen bases, five runs, and one RBI. Those five runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Chris Gallegos, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
SkyView Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.
SkyView Academy's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-3. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Lyons, their loss dropped their record down to 5-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Lyons has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like SkyView Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Lyons beat SkyView Academy 7-2 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Will the Lions repeat their success, or do the Hawks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
