Baseball Recap: Mira Monte Find Success

Mira Monte proved they can win big last Thursday (they won by eight) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out the Farmersville Aztecs 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Lions have posted since April 10, 2024.

Anthony Burgueno made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. Burgueno was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jayden Sanabia-Galvan, who scored a run and stole three bases while going 1-for-3. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Cristian Villalpando was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

Mira Monte's win bumped their record up to 4-10. As for Farmersville, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-9-1.

Mira Monte and Farmersville will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next matchups. The next time the Lions see the field they'll take on South at 4:00 p.m. on the 22nd. As for Farmersville, their break will end when they face Wonderful College Prep Academy at 4:00 p.m. on the 24th.
