Softball Recap: Stone Picks Up Third Straight Win on the Road

Stone won against Vancleave last Tuesday with seven runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. Stone came out on top against Vancleave by a score of 7-4. The Tomcats have beaten the Bulldogs the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Bulldogs has come to flipping the script.

Emalynn Gibson tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Stone saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mattie Gibson, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI. Laila Bullen was another, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.

Stone's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-6. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.3 runs over those games. As for Vancleave, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-13.

Coming up, Stone will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Gautier at 6:30 p.m. Gautier has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.12 runs per game on average), something Stone will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Vancleave, they will venture away from home to square off against East Central at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Vancleave will need to watch out since East Central has now posted at least ten runs in their last three matches.
