Soccer Game Preview: Southwest Florida Christian vs. Donahue Catholic

Southwest Florida Christian hasn't had much luck against Donahue Catholic recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Southwest Florida Christian King's will venture away from home to take on the Donahue Catholic Shamrocks at 7:45 p.m.

Southwest Florida Christian fell victim to Naples and their airtight defense on Tuesday. They lost 4-0 to the Golden Eagles. While losing is never fun, the King's can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida soccer rankings (they are ranked 425th, while the Golden Eagles are ranked 141st).

Meanwhile, Donahue Catholic had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3 goals) and they went ahead and made it nine on Tuesday. They never let the Sentinels onto the board and left with a 6-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Shamrocks, who have now won eight contests by three goals or more so far this season.

Their offense was hitting Evangelical Christian from everywhere, as five different players booted in a goal. Leo Cantwell led that balanced group of strikers and accounted for two goals all by himself.

Donahue Catholic's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-1. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 22 goals over those five matchups. As for Southwest Florida Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-6.

Southwest Florida Christian suffered a grim 4-1 defeat to Donahue Catholic in their previous matchup back in November of 2024. Can Southwest Florida Christian avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
