Softball Recap: Houston Christian's Loss Ends Three-Game Winning Streak at Home

Houston Christian fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against HCYA on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 7-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of HCYA. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against HCYA this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-2 back in February.

Millie Metz spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Houston Christian saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sabina Houston, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI. That's the most RBI Houston has posted since back in April of 2024.

Houston Christian's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-6. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 11 runs. As for HCYA, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-5-4 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Houston Christian will take on Emery/Weiner at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for HCYA, they will face off against Kinkaid at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. HCYA is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.
