Baseball Recap: Somerset Academy Wins Going Away Against Goleman

Somerset Academy won against Gulliver Prep last Friday with eight runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Tuesday. The Somerset Academy Panthers put the hurt on the Goleman Gators with a sharp 8-1 win. That's more bragging rights for the Panthers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Somerset Academy got a great performance from Julio Cardoso as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched.

On the hitting side, Alan Sanchez was a standout: he scored three runs and stole Five bases. while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. He has become a key player for Somerset Academy: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 4-7 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Christian Cordero, who scored a run and stole Six bases. while going 1-for-3.

Somerset Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.6 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 9.6.

Somerset Academy now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Goleman, they dropped their record down to 3-10 with the loss, which was their seventh straight at home.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Somerset Academy will venture away from home to challenge Cardinal Gibbons at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Cardinal Gibbons will aim to continue their six-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last. As for Goleman, they are taking a road trip to square off against Miami Beach at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
