Softball Game Preview: Herron Achaeans vs. Waldron Mohawks

The Herron Achaeans will challenge the Waldron Mohawks at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Herron is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.

Having struggled with three defeats in a row, Herron turned things around against Greenwood Christian Academy on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 10-4 margin over the Cougars. The Achaeans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by six runs or more this season.

Jordyn Ault spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Taegan Ann Gadberry, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Evelyn Grimes was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Waldron was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their 17th straight loss dating back to last season. They came up short against Triton Central, falling 16-0.

Herron's victory bumped their record up to 8-9. As for Waldron, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-8.

Herron's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's matchup. The Achaeans have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Waldron, though, as they've been averaging only 0.8 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Herron continue to outrun the ball?

Herron might still be hurting after the 15-0 loss they got from Waldron in their previous matchup back in May of 2021. Can the Achaeans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
