On the hitting side, Jett Martin was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Fleming County's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 9-10 when he doesn't). Preston Cropper was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Lawrence County made easy work of Martin County on Wednesday and carried off a 16-1 victory. Considering the Bulldogs have won six matches by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Boedy Maynard made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Maynard was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Eli Fletcher, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Gray Derifield, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Lawrence County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .765. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Lawrence County is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for Fleming County, their record is now 12-10.
Fleming County came up short against Lawrence County in their previous matchup back in April of 2017, falling 5-0. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
