North Sand Mountain cans 19 3-pointers to set record; Robert Raley posts 520.35 in diving to break AHSAA's oldest record.

The North Sand Mountain (Higdon) Lady Bison (11-0) set the AHSAA girls state record for 3-point goals made in a single game last basketball season with 18 versus Valley Head. Two weeks ago, the Lady Bison broke that record with 19 in a 97-13 win over Whitesburg Christian.

Chelsea Siniard and Hannah Vest sank five each, Lacy Huckabee and Cassidy Britt added four treys apiece, and Taylor Whited had one. Siniard had two and Huckabee one in last year's 18-trey team effort in a 110-35 win over Valley Head for Coach Michael Wilborn.

DIVER BREAKS AHSAA'S OLDEST SWIM & DIVING RECORD
Robert Raley of Murphy (Mobile) did something last weekend no one else has been able to do in the last 27 years. He broke the AHSAA's oldest Swimming & Diving State Championships state record.

The junior posted an amazing 520.35 score in the diving competition at the University of Alabama's Aquatic Center to claim the individual state title for the boys diving competition. In the process he bested the state record set by Austin High School's Mike Marmann in 1982. Marmann scored 517.45 that season to set the mark that has stood for 28 years. Marmann went on to attend the University of Alabama and earn SEC Diver of the Year.

In the boys team competition last weekend, Bob Jones (Madison) scored 300 points to beat runner-up Auburn (254) on the way to the Patriots' seventh straight AHSAA state swim & diving championship. Senior Phil Deaton set one state record and won two events to lead Bob Jones.

The Hoover Lady Bucs won the school's first girls state championship since 1994 with 188 points, nipping Grissom (171).

Deaton won the 100-yard freestyle in a state-record time of 46.19 seconds and also won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 50.65. The Patriots also won the 200-yard freestyle relay, the 400-yard freestyle relay and finished second to Auburn in the 200-yard medley relay.

Hoover's girls got a state-record performance from junior Angelica Chapman in the 100-yard butterfly with a clocking of 55.71 seconds in the finals. The Lady Bucs' 200-yard freestyle relay team edged Homewood to win that event. Hoover also won the 400-yard freestyle relay with a state-record 3:38.01 time.

Auburn senior Megan Molnar set two AHSAA state swim meet records in winning the 50-yard freestyle in 23.09 seconds and broke her own record in the 100-yard breaststroke with a 1:02.15. Homewood freshman Genny Pittman won the 100-yard backstroke with a record 55.67 time in the finals after setting the state record in the prelims with a time of 55.29. Both marks eclipsed the old mark of 57.09.
