The Kirby Cougars will square off against the Overton Wolverines at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Kirby has given up an average of 8.3 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Kirby lost 15-1 to Southaven on Thursday. The Cougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Kirby saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Erick Valles, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases. Valles is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games he's played.
Overton came out on top against Craigmont on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive 11-run first inning. The Wolverines blew past the Chiefs 14-4. Considering the Wolverines have won seven games by more than nine runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Overton got a massive performance out of Tristan Jones, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave Jones a new career-high. Daiquan Dixon was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Overton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .312 or higher in eight consecutive contests.
Overton has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-8-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.9 runs over those games. As for Kirby, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-10.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Kirby has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 10.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Overton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 13.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Kirby couldn't quite finish off Overton when the teams last played back in April of 2025 and fell 9-7. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
