Football Recap: Independence Starts Season with Victory Against Pioneer Valley

Independence had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They claimed a resounding 47-0 win over the Pioneer Valley Panthers. The Falcons pushed the score to 41-0 by the end of the third, a deficit the Panthers had no chance of recovering from.

Independence's win on Friday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Gunter Golla Iii, who threw for 121 yards and three touchdowns on only 11 passes. That's the most passing touchdowns Golla Iii has posted since back in September of 2024. Jason Flores was in the mix too, providing Independence with two TDs.

Independence didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Jakhai Ervin and Rickey Johnson. Johnson got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Looking ahead, Independence will welcome South at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Pioneer Valley, they are headed away from home for the first time to take on Gilroy at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday.
