Softball Recap: Marquette Now 6-1 over Last Seven Games

While Marquette didn't have the best season last year (they finished 17-21), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They were the clear victors by an 18-11 margin over the Westwood Patriots on Saturday. The Sentinels might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by seven runs or more this season.

Charlye Swajanen made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and eight unearned) runs off seven hits. Swajanen was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, Halle Haynes and Grace Sandstrom did most of the damage at the plate: Haynes got on base in four of her six plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Sandstrom went 3-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI Haynes has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Alexa Whaley, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Marquette lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Marquette is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.1 runs over those games. As for Westwood, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3.

Marquette will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Patriots: the pair will be back at it again later today.
