Softball Recap: Largo Victorious

While Largo's victory against Hollins wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Largo skirted past Hollins 8-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Packers have posted since February 18th.

Laila Weber spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and one unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Miranda Rollins, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Mia Kabakov was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

Largo hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hollins struck out ten times.

Largo has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to strikeouts: they averaged an imposing 8.17 strikeouts in those games compared to only 3.71 in the others. The defeat snapped Hollins' winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 6-6 record.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Largo will face off against Indian Rocks Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Indian Rocks Christian has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.64 runs per game on average), something Largo will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Hollins, they will square off against Clearwater at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hollins' pitchers better be ready for this one: Clearwater has averaged an impressive 6.1 runs per game this season.
