Basketball Recap: Matthew Taylor Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Nandua

Chincoteague hadn't done well against Nandua recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Chincoteague Ponies sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 52-50 victory over the Nandua Warriors. This was a revenge game for the Ponies: when they faced off against the Warriors back in January, they had to take a 70-54 defeat.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Chincoteague to victory, but perhaps none more so than Matthew Taylor, who posted 11 points and five boards. Taylor has been hot, having also posted two or more blocks the last eight times he's played. Another player making a difference was Camaury Davis, who had 16 points.

Chincoteague was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They racked up six more assists than Nandua's also-impressive total of ten.

Several Warriors players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Aiden Mcintyre, who en route to 11 points and eight rebounds. Mcintyre has become a key player for Nandua: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least eight boards, but 4-12 otherwise. Cody Ragone was another key player, putting up ten points and four steals.

Chincoteague has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-9 record this season. Nandua is on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-13.

Chincoteague didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 66-37 loss against Middlesex on the 24th. Nandua has also already played their next game (against Nottoway), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
