Preview: Montgomery Cougars vs. Linden Tigers
The Montgomery Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the Linden Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Montgomery will be coming into the match with an undefeated record on the line.
Last Friday, Montgomery got themselves on the board against Scotch Plains-Fanwood, but Scotch Plains-Fanwood never followed suit. They took their game at home with ease, bagging a 35-0 win over the Raiders. Given Montgomery's advantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey football rankings (they are ranked 44th, while Scotch Plains-Fanwood is ranked 209th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Linden sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 16-13 win over Cranford on Thursday.
Linden relied on the efforts of Tequan Thomas, who rushed for 107 yards and a touchdown on only 12 carries, and Devon Chavis, who rushed for 121 yards and a touchdown. Chavis was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 51 yards.
Their wins bumped Montgomery to 8-0 and Linden to 6-2.
Montgomery strolled past Linden in their previous matchup back in October of 2022 by a score of 28-13. The rematch might be a little tougher for Montgomery since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
